I have been getting a number of emails about a product we used when Bella had no milk the first couple days with 13 puppies. This was a life saver! The product is from Fox Valley Animal Nutrition. They supply formula to most of the zoo's around the country. website is: foxvalleynutrition.com
We used Day One for Puppies along with the Miracle Nipples and 5ml syringes. NO TUBE Feeding! These nipples worked great and the little ones grew in leaps and bounds.
Here is a video of one of the 13 puppies we had this past summer.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any question.
You can email Nick Vlamis at nklc@aol.com. Tell him Mary Ann and Brenda sent you:)

Hello Everyone,
Today we arrived at Sun Valley Animal Clinic in Ketchum, Idaho. Barrett headed back to get prepped for surgery at 10:00AM this morning.
Last night, we enjoyed dinner with a few other Leo owners in Idaho who again welcomed us with open arms. Barb arranged for us to meet for dinner at a outside restaurant so Barrett and his sister Lilo could go.
Barrett got to play outside with Suzy's Leonberger, Lucy who is also a medical miracle like Barrett. Lucy had some trauma that occurred to her jaw at a young age and as a result had jaw cancer. Lucy is missing part of her jaw so the two handicap dogs had a great time.
I sit here again, in the vet clinic nervous and worried that my big baby, Barrett is going to be okay. This time I didn't have to walk and coax Barrett into the back he pranced into the back operating room no problem.
I have attached some pictures to be shared of his trip up here and before surgery. Barrett also has pictures with his sister, the German shepherd.
Thanks everyone for caring so much about Barrett.
Love,
Andrea & Barrett

Another Leo in Need! Anyone who belongs to the LCA knows Pixie and Cajun. What many might not know is Cajun collapsed at LCA Specialty from Acute respiratory arrest! He has been at the emergency vet for a week now and his bill, so far, is over $13,000! While Pixie does have insurance for Cajun it will not cover all of the cost. Once is he stabilized he will have tie-back surgery which will be at least another $5,000+. If everyone in the LCA gave just $20 each we could help Cajun and Pixie in a dramatic way!

Jupiter was rescued after being turned into a shelter. Jupiter has glaucoma in both eyes and a bit of vision in one. I have contact the vets office and they are willing to give The Merlin Fund a 50% discount but it is still over $3000 for the surgery. This has been a terrible week. We have had requests for over $18,000 in help this week alone. Jupiter is with an LCA member and she is trying to provide the best care she can. Please visit www.themerlinfund.com and donate, if at all possible. THANK YOU !! Please earmark for "Jupiter" if you want your donation to go to him!

The last two days have been very busy with some major developments that I thought you should all know about.
First, on the 23rd Barrett was taken in to get a pre-op evaluation. They took additional x-rays blood work, the basics. Barrett was given way too much sedative and the next 24 hours proved to be horrible for him. He was vomiting, crying, unable to stand for over 24 hours. The owner was also told that the hip replacement may have to be repeated as the replacement the surgeon was putting in may not be adequate when Barrett reached his full size. Needless to say that took on a flurry of research etc. that no one expected. The decision was made to seek another opinion.
Dr. Randy Acker was called in ID. I know a number of people had recommended him but they were trying to stay close to home. Dr. Acker was extremely helpful and offered to do the surgery on New Years Eve. Andi and Andrea are flying with Barrett to ID on Thursday December 30th!
The BIGGEST issue is that the Dr. in AZ insisted he be paid the total upfront and a week before surgery. He has cashed the check of $7350, so I can not even do a stop payment on the check. Dr. Acker has agreed to do each hip for $5000. The problem is getting the funds back from the AZ Dr. to pay Dr. Acker in just a 3 day span. If anyone has any ideas on how we can quickly get the funds back, I am all ears.
Please say a little extra prayer for Barrett tonight! There is a lot of stress going on at the moment, especially for Andrea!

Barrett wishes everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS and thank you for his new hips!
This lovely 9 month old Leo is Barrett. He is in a lot of pain with HD in both hips. Luckily his owner has pet insurance. But still she needs $5000 before the surgery can be done. Barrett can no longer walk and has to be satisfied with car rides to get his fresh air. Barrett is loved and owned by a 21 year old who is madly in love with him. They both need our help! Would you consider donating to so that Barrett can have a normal life? Thank you in advance!
